Is that the case for you? As a matter of curiosity, could you plug in the external hard drive before you switch on the PC and see what happens then. Usually these have two plugs to put into the PC one is just a power connector and the other is a power and data connector. If plugging the external hard drive, when you are in the BIOS menu, does not cause a reboot then that is puzzling. I cant believe nobody asked this What is the bsod error code?I suspect that for some reason that USB external drive is upsetting the PSU on the Windows 7 Optiplexbut is nothing to do with the version of Windows you have on it. In the end my solution was to disable those ports. I had 3 Intel Board PCs that had a similar issue.

So on the same PC with Windows 10 there is no issue but with Windows 7 there is? Are all the drivers updated on the Windows 7?

As, I keep suggesting, give it a better power input by either powering from two USB ports. I suspect it hangs because Windows 7 cannot read the hard drive properly but it keeps trying. If you can see it in the Disk management than you should be able to determine whether there are any partitions on it and try to assign a drive letter to this partition for it to show up in Windows Explorer. But i can see it in the Disk management it is detected. You have some kind of solution in that you can work with it by plugging it in before powering up.
NETPERSEC 64 BIT SOFTWARE
Interesting, in that with it plugged in before the PC is switched on then it behaves and allows you to boot into Windows 7.Īnd in that you look at the files on the hard drive? I suppose it could be a My Passport software issue. I plug in the external hard drive before i switch on the PCthat when on smoothly without any issue continue booting up into Windows.

After i reached bios settings i plug in the External Hard disk My passport then the PC didn't reboot. If you are lucky, it will continue booting up into Windows. I suspect that for some reason that USB external drive is upsetting the PSU on the Windows 7 Optiplexbut is nothing to do with the version of Windows you have on it.
